Is this Smoothie Obsession Worth the Hype?

Lately, I've seen this Five-Ingredient Green Smoothie all over my social media go-tos, claiming to be NYC's Newest Smoothie Obsession. As a self-proclaimed smoothie queen myself, I wanted to put this recipe to the test!

The Original Ingredients are simple and include:

  1. 1 cup kale (shredded + washed) 

  2. 1/2 banana

  3. 1/2 pear

  4. 1 tablespoon almond butter

  5. 1 cup plain soy milk

Looking at the nutritional ingredients of the smoothie, I wasn't initially "obsessed". The soy milk alone carries 12g of sugar per cup! I decided to take a simple twist on the smoothie and the results were FANTASTIC! 

The Pepper+Piper approved SEVEN-Ingredient Green Smoothie was just as simple, but left out the hidden calories + sugar! I use this smoothie as a breakfast meal re-placement and include protein powder, but you can leave it out of you prefer.

The Ingredients?
  1. 1 cup kale (shredded + washed) 

  2. 1/2 frozen banana

  3. 1/2 pear

  4. 1 tablespoon almond butter

  5. 1 cup plain almond milk

  6. 1 handful of ice

  7. 1 scoop gluten free vanilla protein powder

 

It's a simple smoothie, but packed with colour, nutrients and a deliciously nutty-sweet flavour. Enjoy!
